ok i have two young fire eels (they still have there golden coloring) and i want to know what do they eat i tried feeding them frozen tubflex worms and the haven't gone to them once
also can i hand feed them at this young age cause i have a community tank and all my fish eat from my hand ( i even can put a algae disk on my hand and the pleco will come up to my hand and suck on it)
so can the young fire eel do this
there names are flotsome and jetsam
so to some everything up
what will my fire eels eat (i would prefer frozen food if possible)?
can i hand feed them(even when there only about 2.5 or 3 inches long and are about the size of a large pen around)
i will get them a bigger tank as they grow but right now there in a 25 gallon tank
and also what size tank will i need (im planning to sell them when they outgrow a 30-55 gallon tank) ive seen plenty of people keep there averagely large eels in like a 30 gallon tank (im planning to keep the eels by themselves in a tank)
so please answer my questions and, just so everyone knows these are freshwater eels some people may think im talking about fire coral eels but these are fresh waterI have two young fire eels i would love some tips and advice?
The Fire Eel is a nocturnal predator, and part of the Mastacembelidae family, also referred to as the Spiny Eel family. Members of this family are not true eels. They are elongated, tropical, freshwater fish that have numerous spines preceding the dorsal fin.
Best suited for a larger aquarium, a soft substrate is necessary for this fish. The Fire Eel will often dig in the substrate and bury itself; this may uproot plants and rearrange decorations. A tight lid should be used for any long, slender fish, as they will often try to escape from the aquarium. The Fire Eel should be kept with fish of similar size or larger, and will not tolerate its own kind.
A carnivore, live foods such as earthworms and black worms should be fed to the Fire Eel. Prepared tablet foods as well as krill and ocean plankton may eventually be accepted.
