I want to go to medical school and become a Physiatrist (NOT psychiatrist). I know though, that medical students practice drawing blood on each other in their second year. I am 20 years old right now, and I have always hated needles for as long as I can remember, but there is not one particular experience that made me this way. I don't understand the reason for my fear. I REALLY want to become comfortable with drawing blood on myself and others. I have been trying to get rid of my fear myself through exposure. I have started watching videos on YouTube of others drawing blood, but I still feel woozy watching the videos and sometimes I even start to cry. I know it is ridiculous, and I don't want to give up my career goal for something so silly. Blood itself does not bother me at all. I have a high tolerance for pain, but the needle piercing the skin does something to me. What can I do besides give up my medical school dreams?Psychologists out there? its probably because when you got your blood drawn, you didnt have enough water and fainted. right? thats probably why, if not, sorry. but i just dont think you can get over that, if you ever get your blood drawn again, make sure to have plenty of fluids and think about something happy when they are doing it, do not look at the needle. if you are going to look, look at how little you have left to give. most doctors and nurses get over it after seeing it a couple times.Psychologists out there?
