Any particular advice (security) or tips for holidays in Punta Cana next July?

You should always worry about security anywhere you go, but the only people that always thinks someone is out to steal from them are Americans! Use your commonsense and you'll be fine regardless of where you go. I've been to DR about 40+ times and I can tell you that you are more likely to get robbed in the US than you are in the DR. In the US poverty is associated with crime, in the DR that is not necessarily the case, some of the nicest and most humble people you will ever meet will be from what we might consider poor areas. One thing I always tell people, Punta Cana is nice if you plan to stay in the resort but there is not really much to do outside of the resorts. Try to take as many tours outside of the Punta Cana area as you can. On the local side visit Altos de Chavon which is about an hour away from Punta Cana. If you are looking for night life nothing beats the capital of DR which is Santo Domingo. Should you not leave the resort area, do not let the out skirts of Punta Cana be your only impression of what the DR is, you will be totally wrong. Have fun and ask the bartender to give you a shot of ';Mama Juana,'; he'll think you're a DR pro and will be sure to remember you.Any particular advice (security) or tips for holidays in Punta Cana next July?
Never drink tap water. Always keep track of your belongings, even when in the beach. And relax, its one of the best places to go, people are very pleasant. Al thou you should have picked may or June, cuz you might run into some rain specially at the end of July.Any particular advice (security) or tips for holidays in Punta Cana next July?
I live in the D.R. I have never been to punta cana but I have been to Juan Dolio which is a town close by to Punta Cana. In general in the D.R. don't carry wads of money even if you think it is not much. To the dominicans we all are rich americans, even if were not american. Carry your camera in a purse or bag. Watch out in crowds they can slit your bag. There isn't so much small crime but it does happen so be on your guard like in any other place. Never drink tap water. Always drink bottled water. If you take side trips into Santo Domingo be sure to go to the colonial city. It is nice and the museams are cheap. There are artifacts from columbus' time.
Well, try to stay in a all-inclusive hotel and there you'll feel very secured and you'll have a very very nice trip, and the all-inclusive hotels are not expensive, because you have all you need together.

Regards.
its not tourism season, and it's hurricane season
